As we have mentioned before on social media, we want more people to get involved and to help make the BA a truly great place to get news and insightful information about Wheelchair Rugby. So, this is what we are going to do, pay you (well, maybe you) to write articles.

We want people to write good, hard hitting, articles about our sport that people will want to read. We want your thoughts and opinions, and we want your personality to show through the article. We are not straight-laced, so we want your work to be as real as the tire burn on your elbow. We don’t want fluff pieces, or anything near inspirational. We want you to help us create the content we all wish was already out there. All you wannabe freelance journalists, get your typewriters out and get to work!
Wait, wait, wait, it’s not quite that simple, keep reading some more and decide for yourself if this is something you would like to do.
To get the obvious answers to your questions out of the way, the BA will pay for up to 5 (five) articles per calendar month, at a rate of $20-$30 per article. The exact value will be dependent on the length of the article and quality of the article (as judged by the BA). Some stipulations:
Articles must be original content
Articles must be thought out, well written, and stay on topic
Articles may be about a tournament, team, athlete, opinion piece, or commentary, but must be about wheelchair rugby in the United States
Articles should use proper English that would be found in a typical news article, although wheelchair rugby-specific slang will be accepted
Any sources used should be cited, any pictures used should give credit to that owner
Authors must have a PayPal account to receive compensation
Articles will be owned by the BA, but credit will always be given to the author,
Articles may be written as yourself, or a pseudonym (or both!), but we would like to know who you are for internal purposes.
Don’t add useless garbage to make your article longer, we’re more likely to pay top dollar for a good short article than a long bad article.
Now a little bit about the process.
Before you write an article, reach out to us at theBentAxle@gmail.com, tell us about your plans for your article. If it’s something we’re interested in, and think you can pull it off, we will give you the OK to start writing it. Once you write it, send us the draft for review, if we have suggested edits, we will send it back to you. When everyone agrees that it’s good enough to be published, we will send you the payment for the article through Paypal, and publish the article. So, to state that again:
1. Tell us about the article you want to write, before you write it
2. We give you the OK to write it
a. Take note that we may have met our quota by that point, the article doesn’t interest
us, or some other act of nature has impeded us saying yes.
b. If it’s rejected, we will let you know why, and we won’t sugar coat it.
3. You write the article
4. Send us a draft, we suggest edits, send it back (repeat as necessary)
5. Both sides agree it’s ready to be published
6. We pay you
7. We publish the article
8. You and the BA advertise the article all over the place and you become a famous reporter.
If anyone out there is interested, reach out to us at theBentAxle@gmail.com and start the conversation. Ask us your questions, tell us about the crazy character you’re developing to be the voice of your articles, whatever.
As an additional note, this is the first time BA has done anything like this, so details are subject to change.
